Two routes to citizenship

Every dollar must move through the formal banking system and is subject to full source-of-funds checks. Paying the contribution starts an application — citizenship is granted only on approval.

Route 1
USD 350,000
National Treasury contribution
  • Non-refundable donation to Argentina's National Treasury
  • Lowest entry point to the program
  • Family members added with fixed contributions (see below)
Route 2
USD 800,000
Government bond subscription
  • Subscription to a bond created specifically for the program
  • Capital is placed rather than donated
  • Interest rate, maturity, transferability and family pricing not yet published

Family contributions — Treasury route

Main applicantUSD 350,000
SpouseUSD 100,000
Child aged 18–25USD 100,000 each · must be unmarried with no children of their own
Child under 18USD 25,000 each
Worked example (Ministry of Economy): main applicant + spouse + two children under 18 = 350,000 + 100,000 + 25,000 + 25,000 = USD 500,000 in contributions, before government, due diligence and professional fees.

The case for Argentina

Why choose Argentina?

The only citizenship by investment program in South America — and a passport that outranks every Caribbean option.

A top-15 passport
168 destinations, ranked alongside Brazil — stronger global mobility than any Caribbean CBI passport, including Schengen, UK and Japan.
Mercosur rights
Argentine citizens can live and work in Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay without a visa — a continent-scale lifestyle and business base.
A real economy
G20 member with major strengths in energy, critical minerals, agriculture and technology, backed by the RIGI large-investment incentive regime.
Whole-family option
Spouse and children up to 25 qualify alongside the main applicant at fixed, published contribution levels.
No residence requirement
Apply without living in Argentina and without completing the standard two years of residence.
Dual citizenship
Argentina allows multiple nationalities — keep your existing passport where your home country permits.

Questions

Argentina CBI — frequently asked

Can I apply today?
Not yet. The program was announced on 2 October 2026 and applications are expected to open in Q4 2026. Be cautious of anyone asking for payment to file an application before the government opens the window. You can register interest with us now and we will contact you the moment applications open.
What is the true minimum cost?
USD 350,000 for a single applicant via the Treasury route. On top of this there will be government processing fees, due diligence fees and professional fees, which Argentina has not yet published. A family of four (applicant, spouse, two children under 18) starts at USD 500,000 in contributions alone.
Do I need to live in Argentina?
No residence is required to apply — the investment route bypasses the standard two-year residence rule. Any interview, biometrics or physical-visit requirements will be confirmed in the implementing rules.
Can I travel to the United States visa-free?
No. Argentine citizens currently need a US visa. Argentina does, however, have a treaty with the US that makes its citizens eligible to apply for the E-2 Treaty Investor visa — a separate application with its own investment requirements.
Will I become an Argentine tax resident?
Citizenship alone does not make you a tax resident. Tax residence generally follows time spent in Argentina (more than 183 days a year) or where your centre of economic and personal interests sits. Take specialist tax advice for your own situation.
How does due diligence work?
The Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs reviews identity, source of funds, criminal and reputational records and immigration history, with input from Argentina's intelligence, financial intelligence, security and interior authorities. It then recommends approval or refusal to the National Directorate of Migration, which makes the final decision.
Is there any legal uncertainty?
Yes, and you should weigh it. The program rests on Decree 366/2025, which reformed Argentina's citizenship law. In June 2026 the National Electoral Chamber declared the decree null, and a federal appeals chamber ruled parts of it unconstitutional in individual naturalization cases. The government has appealed to the Supreme Court and says the program will proceed. Opposition lawmakers have also filed bills in both chambers of Congress to abolish the investment route; as of October 2026 they remain in committee. Neither bill provides refunds of non-refundable contributions. We monitor developments closely and will brief every client on the current legal position before any funds are committed.
How does Argentina compare with Caribbean programs?
Argentina costs more — USD 350,000 versus roughly USD 200,000–250,000 in the Caribbean — but delivers a stronger passport (168 destinations versus the mid-140s to low-160s), Mercosur residence rights and a G20 economy. Caribbean programs remain faster and fully operational today. Ask an advisor which fits you.
